Seasons greetings! I hope you are warm and content.
Years back, I sent a little newsletter to close friends where Iโd sum up the month in six photos with a bit of commentary.
With our brains both wanting rest and light stimulation this time oโ year, I figured people might not want to read an email, but might want to look at photos. Plus, I certainly wanted to get back on here before 2022โs over.
So here are six moments from the year.
That time I stood in Trader Joeโs, staring into this sign for many seconds before uttering, โThatโs not how you spell lemon!โ I alerted staff, who chuckled and promptly plucked the sign out and away from the scene.
Every time I admired the view from my workstation. I had the most wonderful time freelancing with ad agency Ayzenberg. This was where I chose to post up, because cโmon: a colorful wall of bouncy balls!
(And yes, that is a DIY standing desk I formed with a stool. I became someone known in the office for it, an office that โ hilariously โ is equipped with tons of adjustable standing desks, just not in the room where I wanted to work.)(in-situ and close-up) I passed by the above construction site, and this safety notice mesmerized me.
If you ever find yourself in a crummy mood, simply head to trees.
Or ride a roller coaster solo! This was my plan as I went to the Santa Monica Pier, where there is a little-but-fun roller coaster.
Where I mightโve actually became part of a 10-year-old girlโs core memories. As I waited in line, her mom asked if she could ride with me. I wouldโve actually preferred to sit by myself. You know! An adult having a contemplative solo roller coaster experience! And anyway, why was this mother shucking her kid off to a stranger?
Well, I wondered these questions as I stood in line. The girl told me they were visiting from San Francisco. I was still wondering if I should just sit by myself. โYou know,โ I told her, โif youโd prefer to sit by yourself, you totally can too!โ But it turned out she was actually too scared to.
It seemed like a big day for this girl. Until: โIโm not going anymore,โ she suddenly declared, and bolted to leave. Then got back in line, right before the hydraulic gates opened for our turn. โOh, okay! Have a good trip then,โ I said. A split second later she reappeared, declaring, โI decided to do it.โ
Two loops around, including a couple suspenseful hills, and as the ride came to a stop, I made sure to high-five her for overcoming her fear.
Lastly, guess I had no idea what was going on in this superhero flick, but do like having a projector.
Hereโs to the end of one year, and the emergence of a new one. ๐ชฉ
