Sometimes Speaking
is my weekly newsletter on pop culture + the self. And you get to eavesdrop, benevolently.
I’m a Chinese-American actor and copywriter in LA. Recently, a DNA test told me that I’m 83.6% Chinese. I was expecting it to be 100%, but turns out the Silk Road had very much been present with my ancestors (fun wildcard genetics: 1.9% South Italian, 1.5% Turkish, and 1.3% Armenian).
I went to UC Berkeley and transferred to Reed College, where I graduated with a BA in English Literature. Luckily, none of what you’ll read here has anything to do with that.
This newsletter gets its name from when I as a kid, and there was a period I was so afraid of strangers, that I could not even speak to the supermarket checkout employee or ask for a sample at Costco.
I like The Strokes, eating consecutive nacho meals, and buying flowers.
Thanks for being here!
